Skill mystery

A long time ago there weren’t any engineering construction institutes from which architects graduated or specialized educational institution for training masters-decorators. Everything was simple and prosaic. Masters used to find smart assistants and for many years they were adopting experience of mentor. Quite often it used to take 10 – 20 years. If we consider lifespan of the past centuries it’s clear that the biggest life’s part were spend in order to adapt experience of great and talented masters of the past.

However it’s not enough. The talent is necessary for it. During the whole history there were originals that created different types of decorating, developed unusual decorating elements. They improved their skill, improved and changed principles of interior decorating. As the result were made the indescribable beauty interiors.

Present and century experience

That’s not right to say that interior decoration can be divided on closed stylistic segments. History of architecture and decoration can be compared with living tissue that were constantly changing and evolved in different ages: Greece classic magnificence, Italian Renaissance, French Empire, ancient Russian architecture. There was constantly confrontation to accepted representations which met certain standards with new trends.

And nowadays buildings, architectural and decorative elements, unfortunately, get out of order. Without regular and correct restoration it’s impossible to save and recreate cultural sites and objects. For this, as we already said, special experience which develops over the years is needed. If we consider that skill can’t appear but itself and besides core knowledge also years of practice and meticulous work is needed it’s clear that it’s necessary to spend decades of life for it. Maybe just because of love to art, beauty and great hardworking.

Nowadays there are fewer and fewer specialists of bunch of schools of arts and crafts. Besides special education it’s important to go through different stages of craft. That’s why there is high probability that in a short time it would be impossible to recreate classic interiors of our ancestors.

This tendency became worse in the last fifteen years. It’s hard to recreate classic interiors in historical, present houses or apartments. It’s enough to compare house decorating in the beginning of XIX century where proportions of elements, harmony of volumes and symmetry, decorative elements, color scheme and modern interiors are combined. In fact, common thread is losing. As opposite to classic music that can persist for centuries, decorative art can get lost forever that do not allow our masters.
